Rollie Goalie: The Next Generation of Off-Ice Goalie Training and Play

Purpose-built goalie pad sliders for junior, intermediate and adult goalies—engineered for realistic butterfly movement across more playing surfaces.

Shop Rollie Goalie See How It Works ```

Goalie training has evolved. Today’s goalies train year-round, play several forms of hockey and expect their equipment to perform in more places than ever before.

```
A goalie might practice on a smooth indoor floor one day, compete on a roller hockey or ball hockey surface the next, and return to the ice later that week. Young goalies are also beginning specialized training earlier, creating a need for equipment that is not designed exclusively around adult-sized pads.
That is why we created Rollie Goalie off-ice goalie slide plates.
Rollie Goalie was engineered from the ground up as an evolutionary step forward in off-ice goalie training equipment. Every major feature—from the two-size fit system to the dual-surface performance modes, replaceable wear components and low-friction design—was developed around the way modern goalies actually train and play.
Rollie Goalie is not simply another goalie slider. It is a complete, serviceable sliding system created to help more goalies practice realistic butterfly movement on more surfaces.
```

Made to Fit Goalies of Every Size

```
One of the most important goals behind Rollie Goalie was simple: create an off-ice goalie sliding system that works for developing goalies as well as adult players.
Earlier approaches to this type of equipment were generally centered around adult-sized goalie pads. That left many younger goalies without a properly sized option during some of the most important years of their development.
Rollie Goalie changes that by offering two purpose-built size ranges:
Junior / Intermediate
26"–32" Pads
Designed for younger and developing goalies using junior or intermediate-sized leg pads.
Adult
32"+ Pads
Designed for adult-sized equipment and the more aggressive training and playing demands of larger goalies.
This two-size system allows players to select a product designed around the dimensions of their actual goalie equipment. It also helps associations, training facilities and families introduce realistic off-ice movement training at a younger age.
Whether a goalie is learning the butterfly for the first time, developing stronger lateral movement or staying sharp between games, Rollie Goalie provides an option built for the equipment that player is wearing today.
Engineered From the Ground Up
```

Rollie Goalie was not created by simply adding rollers to a piece of plastic. The system was developed through a detailed process of design, prototyping, material selection, manufacturing refinement and real-world goalie testing.

The objective was to create a modern goalie butterfly slide trainer that could deliver smoother movement while addressing the practical issues goalies and parents experience with off-ice equipment:

  • Will it fit the goalie’s pads?
  • Can it be used on different types of flooring?
  • Can worn components be replaced?
  • Can it be removed when the pads are needed for ice hockey?
  • Will it remain secure during aggressive butterfly movement?
  • Is the product supported by a meaningful warranty?

Those questions shaped the complete Rollie Goalie system: upper and lower slide plates, low-friction acetal bearings, Pro Roll Chambers, cinch straps, DuraGrip™ adhesive fasteners, buckles and installation components.

See the complete system and everything included on the Rollie Goalie off-ice goalie slide plate page.

Dual-Surface Performance for More Ways to Train and Play

```
Hockey is played on an enormous range of surfaces. A system that performs well on a smooth gym floor may not perform the same way on an open-grid athletic surface.
Instead of forcing one design to work everywhere, Rollie Goalie incorporates two distinct operating modes.
Bearing Mode
Bearing Mode uses hundreds of replaceable acetal bearings to support smooth multidirectional movement on hard, flat surfaces.
Potential training and playing surfaces include:
  • Gymnasium floors
  • Finished concrete
  • Sport flooring
  • Laminate flooring
  • Tile
  • Smooth indoor training floors
  • Suitable synthetic ice surfaces
  • Other hard, flat surfaces
Pro Roll Chamber Mode
For compatible open-grid athletic flooring, the bearings can be removed so the integrated Pro Roll Chambers become the primary movement system.
This second configuration expands the ways goalies can use Rollie Goalie for training, practices and games without requiring a completely different product.
Applications may include:
  • Open-grid sport flooring
  • Dek hockey surfaces
  • Ball hockey courts
  • Roller hockey facilities
  • Modular athletic tiles
  • Compatible outdoor courts
Surface construction, cleanliness and condition can affect performance. Always test Rollie Goalie in a controlled area before beginning aggressive training or competitive play.
Visit the Rollie Goalie installation center for instructions on setup, attachment and switching between Bearing Mode and Pro Roll Chamber Mode.
One System for Roller, Ball, Dek and Floor Hockey
```

Rollie Goalie is designed to support both structured training and competitive off-ice play. That makes it a versatile choice for goalies participating in several forms of hockey.

Roller Hockey Goalies

Roller hockey goalies need the ability to move laterally while wearing full goalie equipment. Rollie Goalie helps create a sliding interface beneath the pads so goalies can work on butterfly entries, recoveries, lateral movement and save selections on compatible roller hockey surfaces.

Ball Hockey Goalies

Ball hockey is fast, unpredictable and increasingly competitive. Rollie Goalie gives ball hockey goalies a way to introduce sliding movement instead of relying entirely on stepping, reaching or dragging across the playing surface.

Dek Hockey Goalies

Dek hockey facilities often use modular athletic flooring. Rollie Goalie’s dual-surface design allows goalies to configure the system for compatible solid or open-grid surfaces and adapt their equipment to the facility where they play.

Floor Hockey Goalies

Schools, recreation centers, community programs and training facilities frequently play floor hockey on gymnasium or multipurpose floors. Bearing Mode can provide smooth movement on many clean, hard and flat indoor surfaces.

Dryland Goalie Training

Coaches and goalies can also use Rollie Goalie for controlled dryland drills focused on butterfly technique, tracking, angle management, recoveries and lateral movement patterns.

```
Expanding the Possibilities of Synthetic Ice Goalie Training
```

Synthetic ice gives players the ability to skate, shoot, stickhandle and practice at home or inside a dedicated training facility. However, a goalie pad does not naturally slide across synthetic ice the way it slides across refrigerated ice.

Rollie Goalie provides a separate low-friction movement system beneath the goalie pads. This allows goalies to add butterfly movement and lateral training to a synthetic ice setup while players continue skating and shooting around them.

That creates the potential for more complete practices involving shooters and goalies on the same training surface.

```
Performance Supported by Controlled Friction Testing
```

Goalie sliding performance is heavily influenced by friction. The greater the resistance between the pad system and the playing surface, the more difficult it becomes to initiate and maintain lateral movement.

During the development of Rollie Goalie, controlled coefficient-of-friction testing was conducted through the University at Buffalo to evaluate how the system performed on selected training surfaces.

Under the specific tested conditions, Rollie Goalie demonstrated reduced friction—including results of up to approximately 12% lower friction than the comparison goalie sliding product on synthetic ice.

Results vary by surface type, cleanliness, loading, installation, pad configuration and other conditions. The importance of the testing is not a promise that every floor will produce an identical result. It demonstrates that Rollie Goalie’s design decisions were evaluated using measurable performance data rather than appearance or assumption alone.

Why Lower Friction Matters

  • Easier initiation of lateral movement
  • Smoother butterfly slide repetitions
  • Less resistance during controlled movement drills
  • A more natural training experience on compatible surfaces
  • More productive repetitions during limited practice time
```
Designed Around the Complete Butterfly Movement
```

A butterfly slide does not begin only at the knee. The goalie’s toe area, lower pad and upper pad all interact with the surface as the goalie drops, pushes and moves laterally.

Rollie Goalie incorporates a Butterfly Entry Toe Glide Plate to help address the initial pad-to-floor contact that occurs during butterfly entry. Upper and lower slide plates then provide broad support for the pad as the goalie moves and recovers.

This integrated approach is another example of how Rollie Goalie was designed as a complete movement system rather than a single isolated sliding component.

```
Secure Attachment Without Permanently Modifying Your Pads
```

Goalies need to be able to move between off-ice training and traditional ice hockey without purchasing a separate set of pads.

Rollie Goalie uses a combination of adjustable cinch straps, buckles and DuraGrip™ adhesive fasteners. The system is designed to attach securely while remaining removable, so the goalie can return the pads to regular ice-hockey use.

Several attachment configurations are available depending on the goalie’s equipment and intended use. For aggressive practices or competitive play, the combined cinch strap and DuraGrip™ installation provides the most secure attachment.

Replaceable Wear Components Help Extend Product Life

```
Equipment used beneath a goalie pad will encounter friction, impact, dust, debris and repeated loading. Wear is inevitable. The important question is whether normal wear requires replacement of an entire product.
Rollie Goalie was designed as a serviceable system. Key wear items can be inspected, maintained and replaced so owners can keep their equipment performing instead of discarding the complete assembly.
